reports on face book
Dom from Warneet Bait and Tackle weighed many reds in the 7 kilo range last week and the biggest going 8.2. Lysaughts and Joes Island are the best areas, with the outgoing tide producing more results.
Never before seen amounts of bait in the port is producing dynamite fishing. Salmon, trevally and mullet are everywhere and can be worthwhile targeting themselves. Gets the kids down to the piers or drop a line around the channel edges with up to a size 1 hook on a paternoster rig, and use a bit of berley. Whiting are also coming onto the pier at Warneet regularly, and a 4kg gummy was landed last week.
Another benefit (or headache, whichever way you look at it) caused by the amount of baitfish, are the large numbers of quite sizeable bronze whalers in the bay. Plenty of people are being spooled or bitten off when surprised by these very quick fish. If targeting them, use some decent gear, a 10kg outfit will knock off fish around the same size if you are patient, and of course don’t forget the wire.
The channels at the top are producing as many whiting as you like up to 45cm on pippies. Try the drop off in 9-12m for the bigger fish. In the same areas gummies from 6-12kg have been fairly common with easy bags of just legalfish coming in.Troll a silver lure on the way to your marks to get some fresh bait, or use my favourite: eel fillet.
Now that Summer is here, lets hope we see a bit more sun, and with the upcoming
holidays, more free time for fishing. Don’t forget to send through your reports
and pictures, so I can produce reports a little more often. fishing report by Brad Krawczyk
